This is a continuously open vacancy announcement for one or more locations throughout the Forest Service. The number and location of positions to be filled will be dependent upon individual unit needs.

TEMPORARY OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT: Most positions are expected to start in April and be filled through September. There may be some positions that start earlier and/or end later. Applicants are encouraged to apply early in the recruitment process. The first certificate of candidates will be issued to the hiring unit no sooner than five working days after the opening date of the announcement. Additional certificates will be issued upon request from the hiring unit. When there are no applicants for specific locations, the search area may be broadened when generating cert! ificates to include locations in the closest city nearby. Some! positions will have varying work schedules. Some positions may have irregular and protracted hours of work. Tours of duty include full-time or less than full-time and will involve working weekends or irregular work hours. Considerable travel may be required. Some positions involve work that requires travel away from the official duty location to remote worksites within commuting distance (49 miles).

Positions may be filled as a temporary appointment up to 6 months or as a not to exceed (NTE) 1 year which can be extended 1 additional year.

Subject to drug test prior to entrance on duty and randomly thereafter. DUTIES:
As a Nurse, makes referrals to private physicians, dentists, clinics, community resources, or specialized services based upon assessment of the student’s physical and/or emotional needs. Assessment of the students physical and/or emotional needs. Provides follow-up care, treatment or relay of information by telephone and/or interview. Provides follow-up care, treatment or relay of information by telephone and/or interview. Counsels, educates, and trains students on a variety of health subjects. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
This position has a positive education requirement; therefore, a legible copy of your college transcripts is required. Transcripts must be attached to y! our application. Applicants who fail to submit their transcripts with t! heir application will not be given credit for their education.

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above.

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

In addition to the basic requirements,! the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

GS-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited c! ollege or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abiliti! es necessary to do the work. Examples of specialized experience are: Administers immunizations, inoculations, allergy treatments and medications; maintains records, writes reports, assures order lines, and sanitation of unit, and maintains supplies and equipment; performs first aid for minor burns, cuts, bruises, sprains; makes referrals to private physicians, dentists, clinics, community resources, or specialized services based upon assessment of the students physical and/or emotional needs; provides follow-up care, treatment or relay of information by telephone and/or interview on illness, injuries, dental problems, test results, etc.
