Dental Hygienist
Location: Idaho Falls Idaho
Description: Idaho Division of Human Resources is at present recruited Dental Hygienist right now, this position will be placed in Idaho. For detail informations about this position opportunity please read the description below. This position requires travel to local off-site clinics. The incumbent will work 12-19 hours per week. This position does not include benefits.
Typical Responsibilities:
Health Education
Prepares dental education slides, newsletters, pamphlets, and tapes; Presents and distributes them to schools, and community groups
Plans, schedules, and conducts in-service dental health programs
Provides dental health consultation and continuing education to professionals and special interest groups
Teaches effective plaque-removal skills to individuals and groups
Program Planning/Operations
Assesses community dental health needs and develops and implements programs to meet those needs
Coordinates program services with communities, schools, and various organizations to augment existing services and avoid duplication
Programs include:
School Fluoride Mouth rinse program, an economical and efficient means of decreasing dental caries in fluoride deficient area
Nursing and Shelter Home program, an on-going resident dental health care and staff education program
Classroom Dental Health program, for stud! ent oral hygiene information
Summer School program, for or! al health assessments and plaque control
National Children's Dental Health Month to encourage awareness and participation in proper dental care
Clinical Care
Identifies and evaluates patient dental needs by reviewing their dental and medical history
Conducts oral exams of the hard and soft tissue of the mouth, checking for decay, plaque accumulation and other anomalies
Gives oral prophylaxes and topical fluoride treatments
Discusses causes and solutions of oral hygiene problems with patients
Provides care or refers to dentist or health care professional
Checks and maintains clinic equipment and sharpens and sterilizes instruments
Administration of local anesthetics when appropriate, under general or direct supervision of a dentist
Administrative
Prepares annual dental health plan, quarterly reports, yearly school program report, and activity reports for district dental operation
Maintains dental and inventory records
Plans! , develops, and conducts dental health surveys and uses results to evaluate effectiveness
Keeps inventory of dental supplies and education material
May supervise clinical staff and volunteers involved in dental programs
May monitor expenditures and prepare budget reports
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Idaho (Idaho Code Section 54-901 through 933).
Considerable knowledge of: principles and practices of dental hygiene; dental anatomy and physiology; disease and its transmission related to dental health.
Good knowledge of: nutrition and its relationship to dental and general health; clinical dental practices and techniques; teaching methods for dental health; program planning and development for dental health related programs.
Experience: soft tissue management, determining dental health needs of clients; determining applicability of dental-related material for educ! ational purposes; teaching dental health material; speaking before grou! ps; using and maintaining dental equipment and supplies; conducting oral examinations to identify problems and diseases.
