Patient Safety Attendant (PSA)

The position will stay in assigned patient's room and is cognizant of patient's safety needs. Notifies professional staff of the patient's needs and al! erts them in case of an emergency. Assist licensed nursing staff with cares as delegated and identified on the patient safety attendant information sheet.
Provide wraparound services to enhance treatment and provide positive role modeling in the community for patients with mental illness under supervision by performing the following duties.
Psychiatric Sitter: This is an on call para-professional position that requires some experience with mentally ill children/adult or equivalent experience.
Any combination of education and work experience equivalent to a high school diploma and prefer work experience with people with severe or persistent mental illness. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply common sense understandi! ng to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diag! ram form. Engage in legal, ethical, dependable, and reliable personal conduct. Maintain patient and employee information confidential. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable). Maintains calm and quiet atmosphere. Stays with patient unless relieved by another staff; patient not to be left alone. Utilizes call light for staff assist needs. NO food or drink in patient room for PSA.

Knows safety needs of assigned patient by:
a. Collecting verbal report, updated/accurate information form and observation record from licensed nurse before entering patient room
b. Ensures Patient Safety Attendant Information Sheet is completed and appropriate for each assignment.
c. Calls Clinical Coordinator if patient is harmful to others
