This position is responsible for the general daily care of psychologically or emotionally impaired patients assigned by a Charge Nurse. The Psychi! atric Technician is responsible for facilitating patient group activities and precepting new employees as assigned by supervisor.
Assists the activities therapy staff in recreational therapy and activities with patients.
Models, teaches, and reinforces appropriate behavior for patients and supports treatment team interventions.
Facilitates process groups, goals groups, educational groups and problem solving groups for patients and for staff as required and assigned. Understands, and can influence, group dynamics in the therapeutic milieu.
Communicates clearly in verbal and written formats. Reports any patient data or behavior falling outside expected parameters to Charge Nurse and other treatment team members. Documents all pertinent information clearly and concisely in the medical record.
Participates as a member of the treatment team to provide safe, effective, timely, and compassionate care to patients. Provides feedback to ot! her team members to promote continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications
Must be at least 19 years of age.
An Associateâs degree, or work toward a Bachelorâs degree, in a health care/behavioral science field is preferred. Completion of a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field is desirable. Experience as a psychiatric technician, CNA or closely related work field is desirable.
Knowledge of psychiatric illness, knowledge of group, family and individual behavioral dynamics, and knowledge of training and teaching techniques are useful.
Current AHA CPR for Healthcare Providers certification and completion of all hospital mandatory education and training.
Current certification in Non Violent Physical Crisis Intervention and First Aid. If not certified at time of hire, will obtain certification within 90 days.
Sensitivity, maturity and ability to communicate clearly and concisely when interacting with physicians, staff, patients and their families, other hospital d! epartments, and community service providers and referral sources.
Leadership abilities, professionalism, common sense, flexibility, honesty and a service-oriented attitude.
Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in periods of stress.
This position requires that you drive a facility owned vehicle or your own vehicle. A current state of Idaho driverâs license is required. If relocating to Idaho from another state, you must obtain a current Idaho driverâs license within 90 days of making Idaho your permanent state of residence. If you are not a permanent resident of Idaho you must have a valid driverâs license from the state in which you permanently reside. In addition, if you will be driving your own vehicle 2 or more times per week for company related business, documentation of proof of liability insurance must be provided. Liability insurance must have a combined single ! limit of at least $300,000 or have $100,000/$300,000 coverage split. Th! is position is subject, upon hire and annually, to an MVR report/analysis and driver safety education.
