POSITION PURPOSE
The Charge Entry Clerk is responsible for entering all office, hospital, and nursing home charges from fee tickets into GPMS, and provider-based clinic charges into Cerner. Responsible for entering professional charges for ER providers and wound clinic providers into GPMS. Moves personal payments from payment logs to appropriate charge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
2. Enters accurately all office, hospital, and nursing home charges into GPMS, and provider-based clinic facility and ancillary charges into Cerner from fee slips completed by coders.
3. Identifies correct provider code, place of service code, and patient account number for venipuncture charges in GPMS.!
4. Transfers time of service payments to charges as ! needed.
5. Enters control groups accurately on control group log.
6. Cross checks accuracy of fees and other demographics on encounter form.
7. Organizes and prioritizes daily work.
8. Performs reception front desk duties as needed.
9. Attends all required educational training.
10. Working knowledge of Metaviewer.
11. Maintains professional relationship with primary customer groups.
12. Recognizes coding and registration errors and routes back to supervisor for review.
13. Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Patient Financial Services Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
14. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Healthâs Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavi! or.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Post high school education is desirable. A course in medical terminology and knowledge of CPT and ICD-9-CM coding is preferred. Demonstrated competence in ambulatory care setting is preferred.
2. Experience with GPMS computer system is required. Must have demonstrated competence in computer skills.
3. Must be able to interact well with a variety of customers.
4. Must be able to operate a ten key calculator efficiently and accurately. Must have at least six (6) months medical billing background.
5. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
6. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Must be able to set and organize own work priorities, and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
2. This position requires the ability to comprehend and retain information that can be applied to work procedures to achieve appropriate service delivery.
3. Position operates in an office environment. Work area is well-lit, temperature controlled and free from hazards. The incumbent is subject to eyestrain due to the many hours spent looking at a CRT screen. The noise level is low to moderate.
4. Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
